Jewelry Care

Gold and diamonds are ancient things. Treated kindly, they outlast us. Most of what they need is simply not being forgotten about.

Everyday care

Warm water, a drop of gentle dish soap, and a soft toothbrush. Work the brush behind the stones, where light gets blocked before it gets dull. Rinse, and dry with a soft cloth.

Once a month is plenty for most pieces. A ring worn every day likes it weekly.

When to take it off

  • The sea and the pool. Salt and chlorine are hard on gold over time.
  • The gym. Weight on a thin band bends it.
  • Lotion, perfume and hairspray. Put your jewelry on last.
  • Cleaning products, bleach in particular.

Storage

Keep each piece in its own box or pouch. Diamonds scratch gold, and they scratch each other. A tangle of chains in one drawer is the most common way fine jewelry gets damaged.

Emeralds are different

The Pear Emerald Solitaire Pendant needs a gentler hand than the diamond pieces. Emerald is a softer stone and is almost always oil-treated. Never put it in an ultrasonic cleaner and never use hot water. A damp soft cloth, and nothing else.

Once a year

Have the prongs checked by a jeweller. Stones loosen slowly and quietly, and a prong caught early costs nothing.
